#3 – BOULDER TO HOST SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL FOR NEXT DECADE, MARKING A NEW ERA FOR INDEPENDENT FILM
Boulder, Colorado, has officially won the bid to host the prestigious Sundance Film Festival for the next decade, beginning in 2027. This historic move marks the end of the festival’s 40-year run in Park City, Utah, and ushers in a new chapter for independent film in Boulder’s vibrant artistic and cultural landscape. The decision was announced by the Sundance Institute’s Board of Trustees after a thorough evaluation of finalist cities, including Cincinnati and Salt Lake City. Sundance, the largest independent film festival in the U.S., is expected to bring a major economic boost to the area, attracting filmmakers, industry professionals, and film lovers from around the world. Boulder’s scenic Rocky Mountain backdrop, engaged community, and commitment to creative expression make it a fitting home for the festival’s future. Local leaders and officials, including Governor Jared Polis, have expressed enthusiasm for the festival’s move, highlighting the opportunities it will bring for Colorado’s arts and tourism industries.
#4 – DENVER HOMEBUYERS CHOOSE HIGHER DOWN PAYMENTS AMID RISING PRICES
Denver homebuyers are putting down an average of 15% on home purchases, with the typical down payment reaching $84,427 in December 2024, according to a recent Redfin analysis. This marks a notable increase from the previous year as rising home prices continue to push buyers toward larger initial investments. Meanwhile, 27.1% of homes in the Denver metro area were purchased with all cash, slightly below the national average of 30.6%. FHA loans, which cater to first-time and low-to-moderate-income buyers, accounted for 15.4% of mortgaged home sales, while VA loans made up 6.7%. As mortgage rates remain elevated, some Denver buyers are choosing to put more money down upfront to lower their monthly payments, while others are opting for government-backed loan programs to make homeownership more accessible.
