#4 – STAYING SAFE IN THE HEAT: PROTECTING YOURSELF AND LOVED ONES

With triple-digit temperatures expected in the Denver Metro area this weekend, it’s important to stay safe in the heat. Prioritize staying cool and well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water—even if you’re not thirsty—and avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks. Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and try to schedule any necessary tasks for early morning or evening. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, use sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade if you must be outside. Seek air-conditioned spaces when possible, and take cool showers or use fans to help lower your body temperature. Check in on children, the elderly, and pets—never leave them in a parked car. Lastly, be aware of heat-related illness symptoms like dizziness, nausea, or confusion, and seek medical attention right away if they appear.
