#4 – A MAJOR HOME BUYING MYTH DEBUNKED- RESOURCES FOR FIRST TIME HOMEBUYERS

In a recent interview on 9NEWS, Coldwell Banker’s very own Lane Lyon shared valuable insights for first-time home buyers, debunking the common myth that a 20% down payment is required to purchase a home. He highlighted various loan programs that allow buyers to put down as little as 10%, 5%, or even 3.5%, as well as down payment assistance programs offered through state and local governments and nonprofits—some requiring as little as $1,000. Lyon also discussed additional resources, such as penalty-free 401(k) withdrawals for eligible buyers and the possibility of negotiating with sellers to cover closing costs or buy down interest rates. Surprisingly, you still qualify as a first-time home buyer if you haven’t owned a home in the past three years.
