5-BULLET FRIDAY – August 1, 2025

#1 – QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” -William Burroughs

#2 – SEAN PAYTON HONORS DEION SANDERS’ TRIUMPH AND LEGACY AMID CANCER BATTLE

Following Broncos practice, head coach Sean Payton shared heartfelt support for Deion Sanders, praising his longtime friend for beating an aggressive form of bladder cancer. Payton reflected on their decades-long relationship—spanning from their early NFL days on rival teams to mutual respect off the field. Despite competing in the NFC East, the two formed a lasting bond, which continued as their paths crossed in coaching. Payton recalled Sanders’ passion for the game, even calling plays when his son was a high school sophomore. Now both in Colorado—Payton with the Broncos and Sanders with CU—they share mutual admiration and a common home base. Sanders’ surgery was declared successful by UC-Health, and he’s now cancer-free, energized, and ready for the season. Payton summed up what many in the football world feel: the game—and Colorado—is better with Prime in it.

#3 – DOWNTOWN DENVER GETS $100 MILLION BOOST TO SPARK REVIVAL

Denver city leaders, in partnership with the Downtown Development Authority, have announced a $100 million investment into 10 projects aimed at revitalizing the city’s core, with funding made possible by a recent expansion of the downtown taxing district that unlocks $570 million in bonds. Key initiatives include converting historic office buildings into 236 housing units, acquiring land for redevelopment and affordable parking, and overhauling Civic Center Park with $30 million dedicated to new infrastructure, along with $7 million to transform the McNichols Building into a restaurant, arts space, and museum. Despite a looming $250 million budget shortfall requiring city layoffs, Mayor Mike Johnston emphasized that reinvesting in downtown is vital for Denver’s long-term economic health.

#4 – DENVER HOUSING MARKET SEES RECORD PRICE CUTS, SHIFTING POWER TO BUYERS

In June, Denver led the nation in price cuts on home listings, with 38% of properties reducing their prices—well above the national average of nearly 27%, according to Zillow. This record-setting trend signals a shift in the housing market, giving buyers more negotiating power as the gap between sellers’ expectations and buyers’ budgets begins to close. While Denver’s housing inventory now exceeds the national average, high interest rates and broader economic concerns continue to keep many potential buyers on the sidelines despite the increased affordability.
